
Tips for driving in the tunnel
- Maximum speed limit in tunnel is 80kph
- Always observe the variable speed limit and message
signs
- Ensure your radio is on, and listen for any announcements
- Switch on your headlights
- Avoid unnecessary lane changing or overtaking
- Avoid wearing non-prescription sunglasses
- Keep a safe distance from the car in front (at least a
two-second gap)
- Trucks or slow moving vehicles use left lane
AirportlinkM7 is monitored 24 hours a day from a control room in
the AirportlinkM7 Operations Centre in Kedron. Any
incidents will trigger an immediate response from our traffic
response crew.
If you break down in the tunnel, you should follow directions
from our control room operators until our traffic response crew
arrives to help you.
AirportlinkM7 is fitted with hi-tech traffic management systems
and devices, including:
- Radio re-broadcast system to enable tunnel operators to
broadcast messages over a vehicle's AM or FM radio band
- Emergency barriers and stop signs at the tunnel entry points
should the tunnel need to be closed at any stage
- AirportlinkM7 tunnels are connected by cross-passages every 120
metres. In the event of a traffic incident drivers will
receive instructions over the PA system on how to access these if
necessary
- Cameras inside the tunnel to automatically detect and
alert tunnel operators to any variations in normal traffic
flow
- A water supply system. Fire hydrants, hose reels and
extinguishers are located every 60 metres inside the tunnel
- Emergency telephones which motorists can use are located every
60 metres.
